Background of the Study: Burn injuries, particularly severe burns, are among the most devastating trauma cases, often leading to long-term physical, psychological, and emotional challenges (Yahaya et al., 2024). Effective wound care is essential in the management of burn survivors, as it prevents infection, promotes healing, and reduces the risk of scarring and disability (Ezekiel & Olusola, 2023). However, several barriers to effective wound care exist in many healthcare settings, including inadequate resources, insufficient training, and a lack of interdisciplinary collaboration (Ahmed et al., 2023). In Katsina State, where burn survivors face unique healthcare challenges due to limited medical resources and facilities, these barriers can significantly hinder optimal wound care and recovery (Dogo et al., 2024).
Nurses play a critical role in the daily management of burn wounds, from the initial assessment to dressing changes, infection control, and patient education (Usman & Musa, 2023). However, their ability to deliver effective care can be compromised by factors such as overcrowded wards, inadequate wound care supplies, and limited continuing education (Suleiman et al., 2023). This study aims to evaluate the barriers to effective wound care faced by nurses and healthcare providers in the management of burn survivors at the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina State.
Statement of the Problem: Burn survivors in Katsina State often experience delayed wound healing, infection, and complications due to barriers in wound care. These barriers may stem from inadequate resources, lack of training, and other systemic issues within the healthcare facility. This study seeks to identify and evaluate these barriers, with a particular focus on the nurses’ role in overcoming these challenges to provide effective wound care.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on burn survivors receiving care at the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina State, evaluating the barriers to wound care from the perspective of nurses and other healthcare professionals. Limitations may include variability in the types of burns and the severity of cases, which may influence the findings.
